Title: Increase in Overseas Revenue for miHoYo’s “Genshin Impact” and “Blade and Blossom”
On March 10, data from the Sensor Tower Store Intelligence platform showed that due to the hosting of the Hu Tao and Nyanyan character event in early February and the 3.5 update in late February, miHoYo’s “Genshin Impact” saw its overseas revenue rise again in the month, reclaiming the top spot in the overseas mobile game revenue chart and returning to the top spot in revenue growth. Simultaneously, “Blade and Blossom” saw a 62%环比 increase in overseas revenue, re-entering the top 14 in the revenue chart and climbing to the third spot in the revenue growth chart.
During the re-release period, the characters Hu Tao and Nyanyan caused server crashes, with this event happening 451 days after the last re-release. The popularity of these characters can be seen, with Nyanyan being nicknamed the “Nyanyan Empress” due to her high strength.
According to Hsinjiang News, Sensor Tower data shows that since its launch in September 2020, “Genshin Impact” has generated over $4 billion in mobile revenue, with mobile revenue in the first eleven months of 2022 amounting to approximately $1.64 billion. However, according to China Consumer Report, in January this year, a consumer complained that their child had made high-value in-game purchases on miHoYo’s “Genshin Impact” game using a parent’s phone, and the company’s customer service refused to refund.
Another game by miHoYo, “Blade and Blossom,” saw a 62%环比 increase in overseas revenue after releasing new characters and plotlines on February 21, re-entering the top 14 in the revenue chart and climbing to the third spot in the revenue growth chart. The strong earning power of “Genshin Impact,” as evidenced by the #GenshinImpactRevenueOver4Billion# topic trending on Weibo in January 2022, also underscores this.
Despite the company’s shortcomings in registration and payment processes, leading to the frequent occurrence of minors becoming addicted to games and making large in-game purchases, the Project SH project was announced as terminated due to failing to meet expectations.
Nonetheless, miHoYo still has two games, “Blade and Blossom: Star Rail” and “Zero Hour,” that have been unveiled. However, the significant rise in overseas revenue for “Genshin Impact” and “Blade and Blossom” has further solidified miHoYo’s position in the gaming industry.
